Subcultures in Poland

Youth subcultures are popular among students in Poland. We can meet representatives of different groups: skate boys, punks, fans of heavy metal or techno. They live within their own groups and present different behaviors, music, values and manners.

METAL MUSIC FANS

When I walk in my city-Katowice,I see many teenagers. Some of them are odds and look really strange, others remind me colorful characters from MTV’s video.

For myself, the most interesting are metal music fans.

They seem to follow certain ideologies or philosophies. The lyrics of songs they sing show what is important for them. They like spending time on listening to heavy, sulky and apocalyptic music. Their interest in black magic and occultism causes that some people identify them with the followers of Satan. What has no sense and it is untrue! They like showing off or just rebel against the ordered world of their parents.

They have their own distinguishing features - music (many kinds of metal and rock) and appearance. The Fans of heavy metal dress like old rock men. The style is : tight jeans or leather trousers, leather jacket, shoes, belts with hobnails and shirts with horrifying pictures such as skeletons They pay much attention to their long hair.

A survey of ideas and lifestyle is the festival- “Metalomaniak” in my city. All people get together there and dance to the popular music and bands
