Project Plan (May 2003):
1st year: individual perpective,
2nd year: social perspective,
3rd year: national and international perspective
1st
year (EIRENE 2003- 2004):
Education against violence
- bullying, violence in the classroom, outsiders, violence as revenge (frustration, desperation, extreme reactions), violence in the school, violence in pupils live -
Project Plan:
By 10th October : The pupils interview each other and write
personal profiles. These will be published with the photographs of the pupils
on the internet. A photograph of the whole class will open the site of each
class. (The homepage will provide links to all the participating schools.)
By 10th October : A short video introducing the class (no more than 10 minutes)
By 24th October : Film Bowling for Columbine (Key questions provided by Susanne and Wally)
By 24th October : Internet chat on the film and exchange of E-mails (possible date: 23.10.)
By 24th October : Competition for an Eirene logo
In November: Creative work on the topic. Pupils will make caricatures, posters, write
poems. The products will be sent to the partner schools and will be brought to
the meeting in December. The results should be presented on the Non-Violence
Day in March.
6-10 December: International meeting with pupils (4-5 pupils of each school) in Rome.
The purpose of the
meeting is to help teachers and pupils to get to know each other and increase the motivation for the project and
especially for the communication between the pupils for the rest of the school
year.
The results of the working groups will be exchanged.. and the plans for the
project will be updated. The special topic of the work of the pupils could be:
sports and violence. The pupils will work in small multi-national groups on the
topic and produce reports for the homepage, posters, ...).
The teachers will elaborate a detailed plan for next year's project so that the
applications can be finished in January.
January: Text read by all classes: Ray Bradbury: The Highest Branch on the Tree (or a different short story)
By 30th January E-mail exchange and chat on the text.
February and March: The students involved in the project organize a Non-Violence Day in their own school. Results and impressions (e.g. videos, posters, poems, .... which have been presented) will be exchanged between the partner schools.
By 30th March : Interviews with pupils about bullying,
outsiders etc. The precise choice of subject is left to the students. Videos
will be exchanged. Pupils will have an E-mail contact afterwards.
Beginning of May (29 April –3 May 2004): Final meeting in Landskrona: Evaluation and fine-tuning of project plan for next year.
Imbedding sciences in the project
Throughout the year teachers and students are encouraged to deal with the topi violence and nature in their science lessons. The participating schools should, for organisational and curricular reasons, feel free to deal with these aspects of the project on a voluntary basis, since not all of the schools offer science lessons in the participating classes. Ideas for these scientific projects could be: genetic aspects of the gender relationship (men and women), protection of animals / violence against animals), genetic engineering, gene technology (food, health,...).The science teachers should find out about projects that would correspond to their curriculum and our project.
Ideas and plans for the
second year:
Science projects are encouraged (possible topics: ecology, pollution, man’s responsibilty for the future of the earth, ...).
Ideas and plans for the
third year:
historical aspects of
the project
e.g.
Science projects are encouraged.
